After hearing a lot of positive buzz about this, I actually had somewhat high expectations for it. So when it was done, I was mostly disappointed. There is a certain level of realism found here that doesn’t exist in most recent comedies, but not enough to make this great. The scenes between Seth Rogen’s character and his mom, as well as the scenes between he and the girl at the coffee shop are easily the most endearing and realistic (and heartbreaking) of the batch. But they just feel overshadowed.
I have also decided that I don’t care for Seth Rogen in pretty much anything. Had it been someone like Danny McBride playing the lead role, I probably would have enjoyed this much more. Though, even McBride would have had trouble making me believe some of the stuff obviously included to make this feel more like a ‘comedy’. It definitely works better as an awkward drama than anything. 6.25/10

After watching this I felt more like it was a comedy with a questionable reality. Our main character isn’t exactly a reliable narrator, of course there’s nothing in the film that really suggests this, but I still gave it the same score as you.

Could be. Though I’d like it even less if that was true. I like to be able to trust a narrator.

This is easily one of the most pathetic films I’ve watched in some time. In fact, I’ll rank it one step above Burn After Reading – which is hands down the WORST film I’ve seen in years. Not only do I dislike Seth Rogen, but I felt the entire script was shallow and the script was plotless. Obviously, I, too, had much higher expectations than I should have.
