Welcome to the Punch (Eran Creevy, 2013)

Most of the opinions I’ve read about this film after seeing it were based around the complaint that it is style over substance. And, you know, that’s kind of true. But when it comes to an action movie, a beautifully shot city, electronic-ish soundtrack, great sound editing, and moody atmospheric setting are all that is needed. There are a few action movies that dive into the human condition successfully, but it’s rare, so all I really ask for is ambient tone. Welcome to the Punch focuses in that direction, is a bit more than mildly entertaining, and features some strong performances (no pun intended for Mark Strong even though he is the strongest performance). A perfect weekend watch to match my tastes.  7.75/10

  1. I guess I’m also in the minority because I felt like a lot of things that make me roll my eyes at most action movies didn’t happen here (mainly overly drawn out over-the-top action scenes). I loved the style of this movie too.
