Searching for Sugar Man (Malik Bendjelloul, 2012)

Where do I even begin without spoiling this? If you are like me, and you know nothing about the subject of this documentary going in, don’t do any research or looking into it. Just approach it blindly. Now, let me offer this disclaimer: Don’t expect some sort of honest, factually presented documentary here. The story as told is very obviously manipulated to make for a more riveting presentation, which was both entertaining and cheap at the same time. And the more I pondered on it and researched it, the cheaper it felt, especially in the way it sentimentalizes in the end. But the subject was intriguing regardless, especially the first half of his story, and his music was actually very good. So if you don’t mind a puzzle that is put together incorrectly with the purpose of less mundane, you can probably enjoy this like I did.  7.25/10
