The Tall T (Boetticher, 1957)
The Tall T (Budd Boetticher, 1957)
I felt like it was about time to see another classic era western. Outside of silent films, this seems to be my current go-to genre. Boetticher has yet to fail me, and this is no different. Randolph Scott again plays the protagonist in this film, though he holds no mysterious aura here, which is fine but if I had to choose, I do prefer the way his characters unfold in Boetticher’s other films. What really caught my attention in The Tall T is the way the group of bandits are portrayed. With all three being extremely layered and interesting, all with different back stories and end goals, this may have been the most captivated I’ve ever been by a group of antagonists. Couple that with the beautiful landscape and Boetticher’s amazing eye for framing a shot, and you have another great film from this man. 8.5/10
