Kansas Raiders (Ray Enright, 1950)

I didn’t really know much about this before putting it in, but it was sitting there, and I needed something to watch. Turns out it’s about a young Jesse James and his days of riding with William Quantrill. And, of course, all of it is set in my neck of the woods – Kansas and Missouri. It’s a decent film with a teacher/pupil storyline. Though it’s somewhat different in that both James and Quantrill are known murderers and thieves. Yet Enright gives them a sympathetic eye, never painting them as good guys, but also not as purely evil. Outside of this interesting concept, though, everything else about the film is very average. So while not the worst western I’ve seen, it’s still not great.  6.75/10
