Sherlock Holmes (Guy Ritchie, 2009)

Please Mr. Holmes, spoon-feed us even more explanations! So maybe this is just how Sherlock Holmes stories go (I’m not too familiar with them), but there sure was a lot of Sherlock standing around explaining every little mystery to the viewer. It sort of felt like Scooby-Doo. Regardless, I was entertained by the whole shtick. Robert Downey Jr. does a great job of fighting through Guy Ritchie’s excessive style and annoying editing to bring an interesting character to life. The cult-like bad guys were also interesting. It seems like those types of villains are always the most frightening – probably because they look like everyday guys you’d see out and about. I’m mostly just happy I didn’t loathe this as much as I feared I would.  5.75/10
