Rudo y Cursi (C. Cuarón, 2008)

Rudo y Cursi (Carlos Cuarón, 2008)

When you really get to root of it, Rudo y Cursi is just an average sports movie – at least story-wise. Luckily, it’s cleverly disguised by its excellent character treatment. Truthfully, I can’t decide whether or not Cuarón is poking fun at traditional sports storylines or not. If he is, maybe this film is even better than I give it credit for. Really, outside of being a unique film where we get into the lives and passions of an interesting set of brothers, this film didn’t have much stand out about it. But that’s alright as it doesn’t have much that detracts from it either, and it’s good for a laugh.  7.25/10
