The Killing (Stanley Kubrick, 1956)

This is actually the second time I’ve seen this film. After watching Raw Deal, I suppose I was in a noir mood. I was actually surprised at how much less I liked this on its second viewing. First, the film features some awful narration. The third-person narrator often tells us exactly what we are watching unfold on the screen. It didn’t get much better when the characters spoke, though, as the dialogue is 100% Hollywood. There weren’t many characters that actually felt like people. Luckily, the heist plot is still very entertaining, and the cinematography is above average. But this is a much more overrated film than I ever realized.  7.25/10
